Nulca New Zealand is allied with two other international utility Locator industry bodies, NULCA USA and NULCA Australia. Although getting to the USA is a bit more of a long haul, our President, Innes Fisher was able to attend the November 2019 NULCA Australia Annual General Meeting on the Gold Coast, Australia.
As both a member of NULCA Australia, a past NULCA Australia Committee member, and our New Zealand President, Innes took the opportunity to strengthen the trans-Tasman ties between our two organisations.
Although the AGM was primarily to review the position of NULCA Australia and elect the new 2019/2020 committee and officers, the following general meeting provided Innes with an opportunity to talk briefly on the progress Nulca NZ has made over the past year.
NULCA Australia continues to work closely with DBYD Certification Ltd (DCL) to improve the DBYD Certification program. NULCA AU provides much of the technical advice to DCL on the certification.
Robert Row, CEO of DCL, spoke about changes coming for renewal of DBYD Certification, with the introduction of mandatory professional development to maintain certification. A points system is to be introduced, requiring each certified Locator to hold a 50 point balance at the time of re-certification. These points can be earnt through attendance at industry events and completion of qualifying activities.
Ian Lambert, the President of NULCA Australia, spoke on the changes in the updated Australian Subsurface Utility Information (SUI) standard, AS5488, released this year. The changes aren't significant, with subtle difference mainly in definitions of the quality levels in the standard.
As usual, the Aussies were perfect hosts with an informal networking event and dinner to finish up the day.
Nulca New Zealand would also like to congratulate the incoming NULCA Australia Committee for 2019/2020:
President - Ian Lambert
Vice President - Scott Masters
